The National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC) held its second Annual Conference on 27 and 28 June at its newly established Cambridge facilities.
The keynote speakers for the conference included Sir Harry Bhadeshia from the University of Cambridge; Dr Dolores Byrne, a representative from the Institute of Engineering and Technology; and Professor Richard Clegg, Managing Director of the Lloyd’s Register Foundation.
Second- and third-year PhD students presented their research work to delegates and fellow researchers, while first-year students participated in a poster session.
More than 150 delegates attended the conference, which brought together representatives of partner universities, sponsors and key people from industry. Building on the successes of the previous year’s event, the conference received positive feedback from both delegates and students.
One student commented: ‘The NSIRC Conference is an event that I am proud to participate in during my PhD – I am already looking forward to the third NSIRC Conference!’
The two-day conference concluded with prizes being awarded for the best presentations and posters. The winners were as follows:
- Francisco Arteche – Winner, Best Presentation
- Jialin Tang – Runner-up, Best Presentation
- Muntasir Hashim – Winner, Best Poster
- Berta Navarro – Runner-up, Best Poster
NSIRC would like to thank all the students for their hard work preparing for the conference and making it such a success. We also would like to thank the keynote speakers for their participation and encouragement given to the students.
